ABOUT THE ACTIVITY
While the fresh salad and wonderful pasta dish created here is certainly spectacular, the main draw of this class is learning how to make one of the most delicious Italian desserts in existence, Tiramisu! This beloved sweet treat consists of ladyfingers drenched in expresso. These ladyfingers are then layered with a sinfully delicious mixture of eggs, sugar and mascarpone cheese! This is a dessert that many people think is too complicated to make at home, yet here you will learn how to re-create this dish that is sure to please the whole family!

What an amazing night!!
My boyfriend and I were led through an amazing night of cooking with Celio P! Celio was so fun and made the experience enjoyable! He was easy to understand and broke each step down while also fielding questions and giving background information. I absolutely love the meal, the atmosphere, and of course the delicious meal! We will certainly be back and primarily because of Celio's hospitality and knowledge!!

I had a wonderful time with my four kids (14-22). We learned how to make pasta, salad and desert. The food was absolutely delicious and the night was full of laughter. We were originally going to go to dinner in the North end but decided to give this a try. Come with a big appetite, there is a lot of food!

Hermès Team Yelp Review for Selfup
I initially needed a team building exercise and my colleagues and I thought a cooking class would be a lot of fun. We were a large group of 13 and after calling and emailing several Boston area establishments that offer cooking classes, I began to realize that putting together a relatively large party for a cooking class within a rather small window of time would be harder than I thought.I then accidentally ... more stumbled upon Selfup and I read some amazing reviews on the classes that Selfup offers. I shot them an email and was immediately replied to by the wonderful Greg! He was super hospitable and cognizant of our deadline and he was always there with an immediate response for any questions I had. When working with a large group with differing schedules, problems are bound to arise. I had first under-booked and later on also requested to shift our agreed time to earlier in the evening as our team met up sooner than anticipated. The time shift request was on the same day by the way.Greg and his team not only came to the rescue by scheduling our extra guests the day before but began arranging our cooking stations and all the other prep work THE DAY OF. Long story short, I was all over the place and Greg accommodated us every step of the way which is very unusual in this day and age.We all opted for the Italian cooking class recommended by Greg as he felt this class would be best given our criteria. OK, on to the class!!! They booked a lovely location in the South End with plenty of parking, large enough accommodate our group but still intimate which was amazing. Greg was there to meet and greet us and made sure everything was A-OK before he left. (He had another engagement to attend to, I don't know how the man does it!)We then met the amazing Chef Celio and his wonderful assistants! Don't forget, I mentioned "team building exercise" which may come across as stale. This class was anything but stale.Chef Celio is an amazing chef with an incredible resume and wealth of knowledge. The class was super dynamic, easy to follow but most importantly fun!!! Chef Celio had a little Frank Sinatra and other Italian classics in the background to set the mood as he explained what we would be cooking and how. He gave us the histories behind the pastas, all the whys and hows. This cat is too cool for school. We made a plethora of pastas ranging from tortelloni, truffle ravioli, ricotta gnocchi and fettucine and we incorporated a number of different pastas, squid ink pasta, spinach pasta and beet pasta. A one point we combined all three to make our ravioli and this was one of the most beautiful pastas I've ever seen! Chef Celio and his crew were there every step of the way to show us that beautiful and delicious pasta made fresh and from scratch is much easier than you would think! We than started to make fresh made mozzarella for a salad which was a blast and Chef Celio showed us a VERY nifty and delicious trick to make a parmesan cup to act as our salad bowls. (I'm not going to spoil it, JUST GO and see for yourselves.)We sat down to eat our delicious salads while the pastas were finishing up and in true Italian fashion, we were served our pastas family style and we all bonded over a lot of laughs and delicious food. The finale was a homemade Tiramisu which....well, we had as leftovers at work today; it was so good. I realize this is a long review but I'm big on giving credit where credit is due and this was the highlight of the year for me and my team. A big thank you to Chef Celio, his team and Greg for putting together such a wonderful experience. Time to go and make some pasta at home. We'll see how that goes.

5 STARS ALL THE WAY! Celio is amazing and his assistants are just as great! This was an event booked by my job for us all to get together and cook. The overall atmosphere was relaxed and fun - throughly enjoyed the 4 pasta dishes we made and the tiramisu dessert! Chef made the learning experience smooth and comfortable; whether you cook all the time or never it's a experience you'll love - I without ... more a doubt would recommend this!

I've never taken a cooking class before and was blown away over how fun this was and how easy it was to follow along. The Italian cooking class was about ten people which was the perfect size. It was also located right in the North End which was not only convenient but felt very authentic. Chef Celio was a great teacher and made ever step simple and fun. He was the head chef at Mamma Maria in the ... more North End for 17 years and if you know anything about Italian in the North End, you know just exactly how impressive that is. We started the night with plenty of wine (an unexpected but awesome treat) and then we made fresh mozzarella to put on a salad. As an added bonus, because we had some extra time, we even got to make a parmesan cup to put the salad in (and I'm always a fan of incorporating more cheese into a meal). For the pasta we made ricotta gnocchi, truffle ravioli, truffle tortelloni, and fettucine -- some regular pasta and some squid ink pasta. It was really cool to learn how to make multiple types of pasta and everyone had a hand in making each dish. Turns out making pasta is pretty easy! I'll definitely start doing it at home now. After a couple hours of cooking, the class sat down together to eat and it was amazing how a bunch of strangers came together to cook something so delicious. By the end, I truly feel like I made some new friends. To finish, we all had a blast making homemade tiramisu. Definitely recommend for a birthday, anniversary, work event, or just a girl's night out. It's probably one of the most affordable cooking classes I've found and we made so much food!

I've always been wary of cooking classes because 70% of the time, I can't eat what we cook being a vegetarian. However, I found the Vegetarian Italian cooking class on the SelfUp website and was so excited to try it! Our class was in the South End (lots of parking available) and we were anxious to make some homemade Italian food. There were drinks (wine!) and small apps when we got there and then ... more we got started with the class. The instructor, Celio, made the pasta dough (you have to make a lot for a class of 15), but he showed us how to make it. The first pasta we made was a tortelloni (a larger tortellini) with a homemade ricotta filling. We got to roll and stuff them, which was cool! Then we put them to the side and got started on the next one which was linguini. Next we made a ricotta based gnocchi (found I like this much better than potato based ones). Finally, we did the beet spaghetti. Once we prepared all the pastas, we made our own individual tiramisu. This was our favorite part! We let them sit for an hour while we prepared homemade mozzarella from cheese curds to make a salad. Finally, we sat down for dinner (with our salads that we prepared) while Chef Celio put the pasta dishes together. The first dish was the tortelloni with a puttanesca sauce (SO GOOD!). The second was the ricotta based gnocchi with a brown butter sage sauce (I literally could not stop eating this). Next up was fettuccine alfredo, which was Josh's favorite. Our whole group was so full after these that we didn't cook the beet spaghetti and instead got to take bags of it home. We finished off the evening with our tiramisu. The whole night was SO much fun. We think it's a great date night activity, but also great for team building. Loved every second and we didn't want it to end. AND we left full! Could not have been better. Thank you SelfUp and Chef Celio!
