Craving the rich foods of a traditional French Bistro but can’t make the trip across the pond? Chef Joe Maglio, the former Saucier Chef at Las Vegas’ Palace Court, takes you on a fun-filled journey of the menu of a classic French Bistro without ever leaving downtown Boston. 

  • You’ll start your Selfup cooking experience with the traditional Escargot de Bourguignonne - snails sauteed with a homemade compound butter so that the tender, clean flavor of the snails weaves into the savory bite of garlic butter, the tang of perfectly selected white wine, and the gentle snap of shallots. To elevate it further, you’ll work your sinfully rich snails into a puff pastry, complete with a richly complex gorgonzola cream sauce. 

  • Your next course - the Filet au Poivre - is certain to spoil your taste buds with a spicy demi glace made from the filet drippings, Brandy, and green peppercorns. A prime cut of meat expertly paired with a sauce so delicious you’re sure to be sopping it up with a baguette makes an impeccable main course.
     
  • The only dish that could follow a meal like this is the classic Bananas Foster. You’ll learn how to recreate this flambeed tableside classic in your own kitchen as you caramelize bananas until their natural sugars crystalize, and then are served warm over vanilla ice cream.

Got this cooking class as a gift from my boyfriend, it was easy to book online, and the classes aren't sold out for months in advance like other places. I have been to an Eataly cooking class as well and this one was so much more fun. Chef Maglio's cooking class was delicious, educational, and a great way to meet other couples. They provide all the wine you could ever need, and we were able to get ... more our hands messy while making the food. The outside of the building doesn't have a self up sign, but there is a doorbell you ring to get allowed in.Highly recommend!

What a fantastic and fun night we had! Our chef Joe made the class interesting and exciting at every turn. Delicious food and wine shared with some great new friends. The only down side was there’s no list of recipes to take away. Besides that this class is highly recommend especially for Friday night date night!

We had an amazing time spending our Friday evening at Self Up for the Italian cooking class. The atmosphere with so great with fun cooking tips, laid back teaching, wine, and good laughs. We had an amazing time with Joe! He made the experience so smooth and I could not recommend this class enough!! The food was so delicious and we even got to take some leftovers!

My boyfriend took me here as a surprise for our anniversary! I love to cook and this class was AMAZING!!! We had such a blast and met some amazing people! I would highly recommend it and if I could I would give itmore than 5 stars for sure!!! The chef was fabulous and was very patient and funny! Highly recommend!!
