ABOUT THE ACTIVITY
In this class, Chef Pereira will instruct you on the timeless art of constructing fresh and delicious pasta! The majority of Boston cooking classes tend to not focus upon authentic Italian fare, so this is a real treat, as just about everyone loves pasta!

You will learn how to make different kinds of pasta here, such as tortellini and gnocchi. Tortellini has a very distinctive ring shape and is typically stuffed with all sorts of delicious fillings from various cheeses to different kinds of meats. Gnocchi is a small kind of dumpling that is generally thick in texture and flavored with various herbs. Of course, the sauce is an important part of creating tasty pasta dishes, so you will also learn the different steps and ingredients that go into creating a flavorful and authentic ragout!

Take your cooking chops to the next level with The Refined Cook Culinary Series — cooking class social events where you learn to prepare healthy, gourmet dinners and meet cool folks ... morein the process.

Wife and husband team, Marlene and Jeff, are passionate cooks and dinner hosts extraordinaire. They will show you how to prepare a sophisticated and fun dinner for a small group (you) and let you in on practical tips, shortcuts and plating techniques to elevate everyday meals into extraordinary ones. You can participate as little or as much as you want—think of it as a cooking class where you get to party, or a party where you’ll learn how to cook!

Marlene will show you how to recreate the authentic flavors from her childhood and from traveling extensively throughout Asia. On a mission to introduce more Asian dishes, Marlene & Jeff went on a culinary immersion early this year, taking classes in five cooking schools in Bangkok, Bali and Siem Reap. In this class, we will make green curry paste from scratch which will be the base for both our delectable appetizer and the mildly spicy and bursting- with- flavor Thai Green Chicken Curry, one of Marlene’s all-time favorites! A Grapefruit Avocado salad will be a refreshing palate cleanser and we finish with a light dessert of Coconut Pandan Jelly.

In this class, you will make:

Pork and Shrimp Lettuce Wrap, Grapefruit Avocado Salad, Thai Green Chicken Curry, Coconut Pandan Jelly (Gluten Free)

*We will be using sustainably-farmed shrimp for this class
In this class, Chef Larsen works with small groups of four to ensure that each child receives the individual attention and instruction they deserve. She carefully instructs them in ... morethe timeless art of creating healthy and delicious meals. Each child is responsible for creating four separate dishes, including the main course, a vegetable, a desert and a bread/granola item that they can take home to share with the whole family!

Cooking is an important life skill, and it is Kathleen’s goal to put a smile on each and every child’s face that takes her class. Parents are absolutely blown away by the results they see as well. “I get testimony after testimony from parents saying their kids are more interested in cooking,” Larsen states. “They’re so proud of themselves that they can make dinner… That’s what it’s all about!”

It can be intimidating to participate in a cooking class, particularly if you are learning a technique that is unfamiliar. In the No Frills Dumpling Class, Chef Patty Chan and Chef ... moreMarco make their participants feel immediately at home by beginning the session with a simple introduction. “The first thing we ask them is to tell a story,” Chef Marco explains. “And that’s the hardest part for most people. It’s not the dumpling making but telling a story about their experience with food. Food is a gathering point…. We try to express how this is going to be a story in their book.”

Chef Patty Chan seeks to impart her passion for dumpling cooking upon each and every one of the class participants. She honors her family’s heritage and her own personal memories by carefully yet informally instructing students in the art of dumpling making. Here you will learn everything you need to know about dumpling making, from constructing the skin to creating the fillings to learning the five traditional folding and crimping techniques!

Loved this experience, the delicious food, and our host Celio!
We have been telling everyone about this class, it was fantastic! Celio was so helpful, he was able to balance the instructions for the experienced cooks in our group and those who can barely cook mac-n-cheese (that's me). We had so much fun meeting the other people in our group and making pasta together. The food was ridiculously good...nonsense delicious. We all couldn't stop talking about how good ... more it was and were thrilled that we got to take some home with us. This is a really cool class that gives you hands on cooking experience, delicious wine, and a fun social event. Highly recommend it!

This was the first cooking class I've done in Boston, but definitely not the last with this chef! Celio and his wife helped us prepare a delicious spread of seasonal pastas with just the right amount of education and enough freedom to really learn from the class. The passion in each dish was conveyed by the silence during the meal! Our group of 6 worked together with the chef to create 4 pastas, a ... more salad, and a dessert. Coupled with wine, our class was perfect! Looking forward to the expansion of Selfup and what's to come next.

I just had the pleasure of taking the Italian Brunch class with Chef Celio. You can't help but be moved by his incredible passion and love for cooking. I smiled the entire time. More importantly, as someone who doesn't regularly cook, he showed how simple it was to make gourmet Italian food at home--and gourmet it was. The food was as good as the best North End restaurant you'll find!

It was my first italian cooking class and it was so much fun! I learned how to make 3 different types of pasta (tortelloni, fettuccini, ravioli) and gnocchi. I had an awesome time with my friends! Even though dinner was not ready until 2 hours after, there were appetizers and lots of wine available! Definitely, recommend going with a group of friends!

Rosana Urbaez (Merrimack College)
I booked this cooking class as a part of a college program orientation. The purpose was to get the students to work together and it worked very well. By the end of the cooking class, the students were laughing and bonding in ways that may not have happened with a traditional outing. The chef was knowledgeable and helpful. He was patient with our students and they were very receptive to him. Greg was ... more super helpful in helping me book this experience. I hope to be back soon!
