Gumbo is perhaps one of the most quintessential, important dishes in Southern cuisine. In fact, it is the official cuisine in the state of Louisiana! Gumbo is a thick, hearty type ... moreof stew which begins with a strongly flavored stock and some sort of protein which can range from shrimp to crawfish to pork or sausage. These two ingredients are then mixed with the southern “holy trinity” of celery, bell peppers and onions. Various spices are incorporated as well to give the gumbo its characteristic heat!

In this class, Chef Pendarvis will share his southern roots with you by instructing you in the art of making this important dish. Amazing experience. My boyfriend and I did the Italian cooking class with Chef Celio for a date night. This was such a wonderful class!! We had never done a cooking class before, and we thoroughly enjoyed it! Fun class and delicious food.

We went to the vegetarian Italian class with Celio and it was a blast! We made four types of pasta, salad, and tiramisu--all while sipping wine! There were 6 people in our class so we all got to try our hand at the different techniques chef Celio taught us. Such a fun, intimate, and delicious experience!

I just had the pleasure of taking the Italian Brunch class with Chef Celio. You can't help but be moved by his incredible passion and love for cooking. I smiled the entire time. More importantly, as someone who doesn't regularly cook, he showed how simple it was to make gourmet Italian food at home--and gourmet it was. The food was as good as the best North End restaurant you'll find!

It was my first italian cooking class and it was so much fun! I learned how to make 3 different types of pasta (tortelloni, fettuccini, ravioli) and gnocchi. I had an awesome time with my friends! Even though dinner was not ready until 2 hours after, there were appetizers and lots of wine available! Definitely recommend to go with a group of friends!

I've always been wary of cooking classes because 70% of the time, I can't eat what we cook being a vegetarian. However, I found the Vegetarian Italian cooking class on the SelfUp website and was so excited to try it! Our class was in the South End (lots of parking available) and we were anxious to make some homemade Italian food. There were drinks (wine!) and small apps when we got there and then ... more we got started with the class. The instructor, Celio, made the pasta dough (you have to make a lot for a class of 15), but he showed us how to make it. The first pasta we made was a tortelloni (a larger tortellini) with a homemade ricotta filling. We got to roll and stuff them, which was cool! Then we put them to the side and got started on the next one which was linguini. Next we made a ricotta based gnocchi (found I like this much better than potato based ones). Finally, we did the beet spaghetti. Once we prepared all the pastas, we made our own individual tiramisu. This was our favorite part! We let them sit for an hour while we prepared homemade mozzarella from cheese curds to make a salad. Finally, we sat down for dinner (with our salads that we prepared) while Chef Celio put the pasta dishes together. The first dish was the tortelloni with a puttanesca sauce (SO GOOD!). The second was the ricotta based gnocchi with a brown butter sage sauce (I literally could not stop eating this). Next up was fettuccine alfredo, which was Josh's favorite. Our whole group was so full after these that we didn't cook the beet spaghetti and instead got to take bags of it home. The whole night was SO much fun. We think it's a great date night activity, but also great for team building. Loved every second and we didn't want it to end. AND we left full! Could not have been better. Thank you SelfUp and Chef Celio!
